Five Tips On How To Stay Motivated

A new idea or goal will definitely get you excited and dreaming about the journey you are about to embark on. This is true is for and can apply to the different aspects of your life such as your motherhood journey , your career and the list goes on. Maintaining a balance as a working mom can be challenging and when fatigue kicks in you can find it hard to stay motivated. Staying positive and motivated requires conscious and consistent effort and below I’ve shared four things you can do to stay motivated.

Write down your goals

The best way to measure whether the work and effort you are putting in daily is getting you closer to where you would like to be is to write down your goals. No goal is too small. It can be a desire to be more organized ,eat healthier or a career change.Writing it down allows you to be able to visit it later , check on your progress and see what you can do better to actually make it a reality. It is also fulfilling and motivating to see how far you have come and to be able to tick off what you have already accomplished. I personally keep a journal and I pen down my dreams while embracing my journey as it unfolds.

Take action

It’s the little things that we practice daily that form part of who we are as individuals. It is not possible to change something overnight, however, a step towards the direction of your goals will eventually get you there. I have recently taken a 28 day whole-food plant-based challenge. I must say that  the start was really tough and it highlighted the bad eating habits I had acquired over time. On the flip side, having gone through the challenge, I have learnt a lot and have adapted to a new way of eating. I’m definitely not going to allow myself to relearn the bad eating habits. Consistency in your effort will definitely reward you.

Be willing to learn

In any season of my life , I have made it a habit to read up and equip myself with the knowledge I require to navigate that specific time . This I apply to motherhood, career and life in general. Knowledge is power. To better understand your journey, it is really beneficial to draw wisdom from others who have gone before you. There is a lot of material out there including free resources. Take time and select what best suits your needs and start reading.

Surround yourself with people who inspire you

Have you ever felt a sudden change in your mood and wondered what went wrong and where? I have experienced this quite a number of times and every time I tried to figure it out , I’ve found that I had been part of or listening to a conversation that was not constructive at all. Don’t get me wrong , it’s ok to be a shoulder to someone who is going through a rough patch or just needs to vent but it’s equally important to protect your peace of mind. There are people who just never see the best out of any situation and being around them can only drag you down and leave you feeling demotivated. On the other hand , being around people with a positive energy will leave you feeling like you can conquer the world!

Be realistic at all times

A delay in achieving what you had envisioned is not a sign that you have failed but may just be an indication that it’s time for you to create a new strategy or plan of action. Our attitude truly does determine our altitude. Always choose to see challenges as a learning experience and an opportunity for growth. Life is made up of different seasons and this applies to work , family and relationships. Take a stand and make a conscious decision to grow through these experiences and the different phases of your journey in life.
