Four Ways To Practice Gratitude

Four Ways To Practice Gratitude

I’ve been struggling to get enough rest lately and I’ve found it to negatively affect my emotions. It’s quite easy to fall into the trap of being exhausted, then feeling grumpy and complaining about everything whereas there is a better way to approach the situation. Our words and thoughts shape who we are. Two people could be going through similar life experiences but their attitude towards it is what will set them apart. We might not have the power to decide what happens to us or what we go through but we’ve been blessed with the power to choose how we react.

Practicing gratitude is an attitude that says I have my aspirations and would like things to go a certain way but I will enjoy the journey while choosing to be happy and grateful for the present.

Here are four ways you can practice gratitude.

Gratitude journal

Make time in your day , and this shouldn’t take hours , to write down what you are grateful for. There’s nothing too insignificant for this list. If you managed to get your kids to bed early and got some reading time, write it down as well. This list should help you realize that you have so much more to be grateful for than what seems to give you  a reason to complain. At moments when you feel tempted to focus on the negative,  be sure to pull out this list as a reminder.

Choose joy

A smile is not only a free gift to share with those around you but it will also brighten up your day. Start your day by  making a firm decision that the day is a blessing and you will choose joy despite anything you might encounter in it.

Let go of things you can’t control

Worrying has never changed or made anything better. Choose to learn through your challenges and grow to be a better version of yourself and always remind yourself that worry is only a time waster and will not improve how you feel.

Focus on your strengths

Above everything you could be struggling with , there are things that you are doing well. Choose to celebrate the small wins and every step that you are taking towards any goal you might have.

As the saying goes, a grateful heart is a magnet for miracles. Start every day  with a grateful heart and see how it transforms your life.
