How To Get More Family Time As A Working Mom

I know we want to do it all and be super mommies but I’m just over that. I’m only human and I can only do so much with the time I have. I’m really glad that although it took me time to get here, some time ago I got a wake up call and really had to snap out of it.

I believe I’ve lost you there but let’s rewind a bit. When I got married, that’s about seven years ago, I was working but felt I could manage the home on my own. I was doing laundry, cleaning and cooking for the two of us. This left me little time to rest and I was always trying to catch up. Later on I gave birth to my son and my to do list just increased. I was  not managing to get everything done and something just had to give.

I believe the reason we wake up early daily  to chase our dreams is so that we can take better care of our families but we also don’t want this to be the reason we lose out on quality time together with them.

So how can you get more family time as a working mom?

Thare are four tips you can use to  help you create more time to spend with your family.

Get the help you need at home

I know it can be intimidating to have someone come into your personal space but working moms need help at home. Having someone assist you with taking care of your home means that you get some time to relax after work and get to prepare dinner for your family. This also helps with your emotional well-being because having so much on your plate can lead to stress and  burnout. Do yourself a favor and outsource services for your home or hire someone to help you out.

Shop online

There are thing you’ll need to visit the grocery store for but you can shop online for some home essentials. This is definitely a time saver and you can have more time at  home rather than running from one store to the next.

Let kids help with chores appropriate for their age

The little ones might not be as willing at first but involve them more often and they will get used to the idea. My son is five and he loves to help out by putting away the toys for him and his sister. One other way he helps mommy is by giving me ingredients as I prepare meals and I personally love this time because he enjoys it and opens up to share more about his day at school.

Make the most of your time off work

Schedule your leave for the time when it’s also school holidays. This will allow you to plan for some fun activities with the family such as a getaway. Planning your calendar this way benefits the entire family and you get some quality time with each other.

I agree that it’s important to be dedicated to our work and to building careers but we should not sacrifice quality time with our families. Time shared with our kids is something they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

  • Thanks for the tips mummy. Balancing family time and work can be so challenging as a working mom
weekdays are very hectic and there is no enough time to bond with the family. I make Friday a special day / night, most Fridays I don’t cook I buy supper for my family so that I can spend the quality time with them, instead of spending time in my kitchen. And It’s a movie night we prepare out favorite snacks and i help my kids to choose movies from Netflix. We enjoy watching the movies together as a family and I even allow them to go to bed late.
