How To Unwind After Work

How To Unwind After Work

You might have had to rush to your car to make sure you get to work on time but you’ve now reached the end of your work day. You get  home and are now  with the kids  after a long and  stressful day. It can be hard to turn off your work mode as unfinished tasks still linger in your mind and let’s not  mention the physical exhaustion. This might leave  you  wondering whether it’s even possible to unwind when  you still have to make dinner  and get the kids ready for bed?

If you are following my tips on how to make your weekday mornings less stressful, you should have a clear idea of how your evening routine goes but between all of that , you need time to recharge after a long day at work.

So from the moment you get home, how do you detach yourself from work and enjoy being home with your family?

Change into comfortable clothes

I want to feel as comfortable as possible when I’m home and when I get home after work ,the first thing I do is change into comfortable gear. This helps me to feel that I’m now home and I can let go of all the stress of work and relax.

Put your phone away

As tempting as it is to scroll through your phone , it’s time consuming and you could use that time to bond with your kids or relax. Forget a little about your phone, be present with your loved ones and enjoy the little time to just sit down and breath.

Take a moment to listen

It’s very simple for moms to tune into autopilot and just give instructions while trying to make dinner and serve snacks to the little ones but I want to encourage you to take a moment to listen. Ask your kids about their day at school or day care and I know a lot of stories come up from this question but take the time to listen. This will not only be good for you,  but it will also let your kids know that they are special and  deserve your listening ear. I personally love this because my son loves to share or in his own words , teach me something interesting he got to learn that day.

Plan out your meals

Create more time to relax and avoid the stress of trying to figure out what you will be having for dinner by having a weekly meal plan. Getting dinner ready will be much easier and faster because you already know what your family will be having or even have some components of your dinner prepared.

Have some tea

I’m a tea lover and nothing says you are now home like a cup of tea with lemon after a long day. Take a moment to enjoy a cup to help you relax after a long work day.

Practice gratitude

Pause and always choose to be grateful to fill your heart with joy. There are many ways to practice gratitude and  I’m intentional about it. I make time to grab my journal and list the things I’m grateful for. The result of it all is that it’s always a reminder that I have more to be grateful for than to complain about.

Instead of  stressing about the amount of time you have when reaching home after work, try these few things to help you relax and let go of all the pressure and stress you could have had in your day. Choose to be present in that  time you have at home  and allow yourself to relax.
