How Well Do You Care For Your Soul ?
There is a lot of being said about self-care and the picture painted is that of a mom enjoying a bubble bath without any disturbance from the kids or having a coffee date with a friend. As much as it is a great idea to take care of the physical, I often wonder how many of us practice soul-care.
Taking care of our mental, emotional and spiritual well-being is just as important and if we dedicate time for it, it will definitely change how we feel and approach each day.
There are three things you can do to practice soul-care.
Set some quiet time for yourself
It’s in stillness and away from the rush of the day where you get to focus on the innermost part of you. Our lives can get so busy to a point where we are just going about aimlessly through each day. To care for our souls, we need to take time to look deep within and assess whether what we dedicate our time to nourishes or drains us. Quiet time for me means being silent and dedicating that time to hearing from God.
Make time to read
It’s true that we learn through our experiences but we can also learn through that of those around us. Our thoughts shape who we are and it’s therefore important to be very selective with what we consume with our eyes. I love to read and I’m always on the search for a book that relates to where I am or the direction in which my life is headed. The Bible is a manual and a compass for my life and I give myself time daily to read and meditate. I find this exercise to truly nourish and rejuvenate my soul. It also guides me on how I tackle each day along with its challenges and how I interact with those around me.
Reduce your screen time
Sometimes we get so caught up in all that’s happening around us and with today’s technology, everything is literally at our fingertips. As you browse and scroll through your phone, remember to set healthy limits for yourself. Make time to allow your mind to rest and be wholly present where you are and in what you are doing. If needs be, disconnect to reconnect with yourself.
As you dedicate time to do what refreshes and rejuvenates your body, remember to make time to care for your soul too.
