It’s the end of a long day and there are countless chores to get to… As moms, we always put everyone else first. Our spouse, children, house chores and the list goes on. There is never enough time for us to just be and enjoy some me time. That said, for us to be great moms and take care of our families, we should make ourselves a priority.
Here is a list of self-care ideas for hard working mommies:
Start a mommy club with your friends
If you have friends or colleagues whom you share common values with, a mom’s club will be a great way to unwind and connect with fellow moms. There are many books and guides we can read about being a mom but nothing beats experience! You will gain much needed advice from moms who have gone through what your experiencing.
Create time to get yourself pampered.
Be it a day at a spa or in your home ,always make it a habit to schedule time to yourself at least monthly .For me , just making time to get my nails done and chatting to my nail technician really does make me feel refreshed. When I look good I feel good and something this simple goes a long way into how the rest to my day or week will be.
Set lunch date with a friend
I work five days a week meaning my days are really hectic and I only get to meet with friends after some time. The time I do spend with friends turns out to be so refreshing and we share and learn from each other. Whether your friends are moms or not , some time without the kids can be so therapeutic in that for that moment , its only about you. . Try it, you might just end up laughing about what you thought was crisis and was clouding your mind all day.
Do exercises in your home … with your kids!
I know this sounds like a crazy idea but trust me on this one and just give it a try! My son usually joins in while my daughter giggles away as we do home exercises. It’s so much fun for them and a great way for us to connect but above all, we both getting the health benefits of staying active in the comfort of our own home.
Do something that you enjoy
There is definitely a task that each of us just enjoys doing and kind of relaxes us. For me, its baking! I am trying out new recipes that I know my family will enjoy. It’s fun for me and by the time I’m done there’s a nice treat for everyone to enjoy! Whatever it is, DIY , a walk in the park etc. , deliberately set time for what you enjoy doing besides taking care of family or work.
As working moms, we will not always feel in control but should deliberately set time aside to care of our wellbeing. If are well taken care of, we will be happier individuals and will therefore be able to take better care of our families. Don’t feel bad if you are not suddenly able to get this right or lag behind along the way, take it one day at a time. The best part is that you have taken your first step!
