Why You Shouldn’t Compare Yourself To Other Moms
Comparison is the thief of joy and this applies to motherhood too. It’s quite easy to feel like you are not doing enough or could be a better mom to your kids just because you came across one mom doing her shopping with kids who were well behaved. In this case, you are allowing a single encounter with a total stranger to count your early mornings, school runs and comforting hugs to your kids as insignificant effort to a point where you fail to see yourself as a good mom.
It is important that we see and applaud our efforts as moms and here are the reasons you should never compare yourself to other moms.
Your family is unique
No two families are exactly the same regardless of whether they have the same number of kids or the parents work similar jobs. This means that how you plan and execute your daily routine will differ from the next family. Instead of entertaining the urge to compare yourself, rather find ways to get empowered to help make your life easier as a mom. If you admire something about another mom, compliment them and ask for guidance if you think you can learn something from them.
You are doing your best
It doesn’t matter if you don’t get through your to do list but only mange to care for the kids on some days. The bottom line is that you wake up every morning and are doing your best which is good enough. Learn to look at yourself and take pride in everything you do daily for your family because it’s an expression of your love for them and it’s worth being celebrated.
You are the best mom for your kids
I truly believe that each one of us is a mom to the kids who God saw us fit and equipped to care for. You are the best mom for your kids and how you care for them is the best way for them. By wishing and trying to be someone else , you rob both you and your kids of a special and unique parenting experience that was meant for only you and them.
To your kids , you are the world
Your kids are not comparing you to anybody else but all they see is a mom who loves and cares for them in a way that nobody else can. That’s the reason they never get tired of spending time with you and in a room full of people, they will always want to be close to you. If only you could see the world through your little ones’ eyes, you would realise how secure and loved they feel because of the mom you are to them.
Remember that you are not defined by the struggles you experience in your journey of motherhood. Choose to embrace the love , lessons and growth that comes with being a mom and enjoy the journey.
Love,
