Working Over The Festive Season? Four Tips On How To Connect With Your Family
The festive season is upon us and everyone is excited about the time they will get to spend with their families, however, not all of us will have the opportunity to be off work during this time.
Most people love to travel during this period and if you’re working, the choice has been made for you and a week-long vacation is simply out of the question. Do not despair because all is not lost. It’s time to get creative and make most of the little time you’ll get to be with your family.
There are a number of things you can do to connect with your family and make this time a memorable one.
Share the story of Christmas
It’s our responsibility as parents to teach our kids the true essence of Christmas. I want my kids to grow up understanding the reason we celebrate Christmas and the value it has for us as a Christian family. One way you can do this is to get books that you can read for your kids as these will be written in a way that’s easy for them to understand. By doing this , you’ll be having quality and fun time with them while instilling valuable lessons into their lives.
Decorate your Christmas tree together
This is one activity that’s really fun for the whole family. If you haven’t bought your Christmas tree yet , allow your kids to help you choose the decorations and it will be even more meaningful for them. The weekend is a good time to put up your tree and as I’ve already mentioned, involve your kids. It’s an activity that inspires creativity and your little one will be beaming with pride once the tree is up.
Connect with friends/ family close to you
Due to today’s busy lifestyle and work commitments, most of us only keep in touch with close friends and family via phone calls but we hardly get to physically meet and spend time together. If you have close friends or family nearby that you have not seen in a while, it would be a great idea to meet up for a special lunch and catch up session. Nothing beats spending time , sharing a meal and conversing with each other.
Practice gratitude
It’s human nature to constantly desire something better while not taking the time to look around us and be grateful for what we’ve been blessed with. I count it as a blessing to be able to go out to work every morning and rather than allowing working mom guilt to start creeping in , take some time to count your blessings. We might not have everything figured out but each of us has something to be grateful for. Take time to tell those around you that you are blessed to have them as part of your family. Writing them little notes with words of gratitude will definitely have a great impact in the hearts of those you love.
These are only a few of the many things you can do to connect with your family if you will be working over the festive season. Being at work is definitely not a reason to miss out on this special time of the year with your family. If you have other ideas , please share in the comments below.
